I have a question.
Why do European tanks all have like, special brand names?
When I walk into a petstore, I look at the tanks and just see Marine Land and such.
Why does america have a few main stream tank manafacturers, and the UK so many? Or am I just blind...again?

Also, how many Gallons are:
Jewl 180 and the Jewl 240 or 60?
I've seen a ton of members around here have em.'

Also does the "180" part in the name jewl 180 mean that it has 180 leters?

yes, the number referes to the litres on juwel tanks :)

That doesn't answer my full questions, but thanks.
*wispers*dont be such a thread killer....lol...

Im not sure about american tanks as i've never been to america or know of any particular brands, all i know is that english gallons are more than american ones and that the most common fish tank brand i see in england are juwel tanks. It might have somthing to do with prices and popularity of marine tanks over freshwater tanks in america while freshwater tanks seem to be more popular over here?
I suppose the all in one juwel tank kits make ideal first tank setups for freshwater tanks.

there is a pinned topic on conversions at the top of the page.

180 litres = 39.594 imperial gallons or 47.565 US gallons

240 litres = 52.793 " " or 63.420 " "

60 litres = 13.198 imperial gallons or 15.855 US gallons

Hope this helps

Emma

All Juwel tanks are in litres but some tanks you can get just have a random number on them so its best to get the measurements and use the convertor to work it out

Juwel is a German company, presumably america is a market that they have either yet to break or its not financially worth it to ship them over there.

Other than that, the other manufacturer that springs to mind is clear seal, and rather than being a tank kit, they really are bog standard (but good quality) tanks.

Are you jealous we have names for our tanks and you don't ?!?! :D

almost correct. the 180 refers to the total volume of
air not the total volume of water, which would be considerably less

The main suppliers in the UK are...

Jewel (by far),
Hagen (a.k.a. fluval)
Rena (French)
Superfish
Aqua One.

There are of course many more, but these are the main ones. I think we have more choice because the British are very picky. We don't settle for something we don't really want, and because of this there are many different tanks available.

In America, there are a few mainstream makes, probably because they have market monopoly, and because no one wants to stock tanks that are more expensive because they are produced in smaller quantities. However from what I have seen there doesnt seen to be any really good American tank manufacturers.

Picky picky ;)

Personally i think its more down to logistical problems, to cover the whole of the USA a company would have to HUGE and have an even larger distribution section to cope with getting tanks all around the country, here in Britain you can drive a truck from one end of the country the other in a single day, it takes several days to cross a single state in the US.

Oh dear, you've cought me. :p

Anyways, I bet you guys are all right.

For the British being picky: I dont really care about who makes my tank, as long as they have a decent reputation. Of course, I've only bought from one company, which is most widely availible in my area, Aquaculture. (The only tank The I've seen in my LPS, Petco, Wal*Mart and Petsmart. Unless thats just the bname I recognize most, so it seems like thats all I've seen. My brain works in mysteirous ways....)
I've had no problems with the tanks I've gotten from AquaCulture.
Ha! I've found 2! MarineLand and AquaCulture!
Woohooo.....

There's a new brand in UK stores that seems to to be becoming very readily available and seem to be good tanks with the terrible name of Fish R Fun

Why is that a terrable name?
I'd agree with that statement...

we have hagen in the us and canada haha and for around here thats pretty much the only tank we can get so i guess we do have quality tanks in america huh bunjiweb

For bunjiweb:

I think aquaculture does excellent. None of my tanks have any noticeable problems.
The tank are cheaper than their competators, which makes them popular.
Like I said, I've never had any difficult with my tanks.
