Can anyone recommend some affordable plant suppliers? I have had mixed results with ebay in the past, and can't find the name of who I ordered from, unfortunately. I don't need anything fancy yet. I've been getting sick pretty often so while I want my tank to look nice, I can't assume I will be able to devote a huge amount of time to it just yet. I have the Juwel Rio 180 with two T5s. Airflow is good but I can add more if necessary. I would say CO2 is a no for now. So suppliers of plants that won't break the bank to replace if it doesn't go very well right away would be great. Any suggestions for plants that would work in this set-up would be welcome too. I have a sand substrate and will fertilise as/if/when required.

riccia?... thats just because im selling some on here though >.>

umm good plant suppliers i use "plantsalive" :good:

I have got a few good plants from Maidenhead, but tbh, the best plants I have gotten have come from ebay sellers. I just check their feedback and make sure that other people have been happy. I have gotten several batches of expensive Tropica plants through bigger online retailers, and they have been pretty unremarkable unfortunately. I have heard good things about plantsalive and aquaessentials, although I haven't bought any plants from them.

I was quite happy with the stem plants I got on eBay. The only thing I would be wise about is sellers saying they have a huge selection of stem plants and they'll give you "what is in season"
when in reality they only have a selection of the 6 most common. This is purely a sales tactic plain and simple. For a retailer, it would just add too much complexity to say you have 60 varieties just to give different people different ones. Oh, and they come with free snails, which I like, you may not. ;)

Thanks for the replies! I have taken note of them and will be looking at them all over the weekend.

Would it be safe to start ordering plants now? I hoped for them to take root a bit before I move my two fish into the large tank, but I am very eager to get them out of the hospital tank. I have a bristlenose and an emperor tetra. The tetra will need friends as soon as he is moved ideally, and actually the tank's stock will need to be built up very quickly to maintain my cycle. I feel as if I am close to the end of the cycle. My ammonia is dropping regularly, though not quite as quickly as it had been recently, my nitrites have gone from off the chart to a definite 0ppm, and my nitrates are pretty middle-range, which my plants might like before fish go in.

If I do plant, can I keep bring the ammonia to 2.0ppm until I feel it is safe for the fish to go in?

 I do like it though, to be fair! If you have any left (or even if not), would it work in a pretty high-light tank without CO2? I am not against liquid carbon even though I really don't know much about it, but I'm not planning on doing a CO2 set-up anytime soon.

i find mine does fine without co2. although it doesn't do well if you over dose on liquid carbon

Ah, that's good news. I will give it a go. It was suggested that my lighting would make it necessary to have some sort of carbon. I did well before but it wasn't long before I had to abandon everything for a while.

I buy all mine at http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/. They aren't necessarily the cheapest but I can't fault their quality and packing.
