uh oh............

another of my female mollies is behaving oddly, very distant from others (infact they all chase her) frequently found at the back of the tank or the top of the tank, but usually hiding under my bogwood towards the back, perhaps squaring off a little but its hard to tell becuase she keeps hiding.......

am I due another bathch of littleuns?

if so, my fry tank is not up and running yet my 15 existing ones are still in the trap so what do I do? leave her to it and let nature take its course or put the v back in the trap and plonk her in it?

I breed livebearers and this time of year I keep many of my fish in unheated aquaria and they do just fine.

If you are struggling for space, I would suggest putting your 15 fry in a plastic tub such as one of those plastic stackable boxes you get in B&Q. I have around 120 tanks now, so do not have much of a problem with space, but those boxes were a god send in the past.

If you are concerned about the idea, then you will have to let nature take it's course.

If you're not prepared to be a "Mom", then you just let it all occur naturally..... :)

ok so now I have a big dilemma.........

I have added water, some bactozyme (even if its useless) and some fish food to the small fry tank (but no dechlorinator yet as its here tomoorw) my filter is here tomorrow too, but.................. not only do I have 15 fry in a breeding trap, one of my female mollies who is prob pregnant herself is shimmying in the water, rubbing against things and the others seem to be trying to peck at her side?...............

HELP!!!!!! who goes in the new tank lol

Move the fry out.

In the existing tank, turn your heat up to 87F and leave it there for two weeks. Make sure you turn up the heat slowly, a degree or two every hour. This will kill of ich on that fish if that is what she has, and it will kill it off for other fish as well.

Did you remove chlorine from the water by boiling water or letting it sit out for 24 hours? This will remove chlorine but not chloramines. Depending on where you live, you may not have chloramines in your water.

As far as floating a plastic container in the tank, poke holes in it so the fry can't escape but fresh water can circulate in it.

Have not boiled the water just put it straight into tank and added bactozym and some flake food, thats all thats there, my filter arrives tomorrow and needs cycling in main tank for a few days then i can move it too fry tank along with fry......

so by the time my filter hits the tank it will have been standing for atleat 24 hours

have i done the right thing?

It needs water conditioner if you didn't put anything in it. It will help eliminate heavy metals like the copper in many people's pipes, and the chlorine, and chloromine that water companies use to disinfect. But if your water provider used chlorine instead of chloramines, then you should be ok if the fish don't go into the water for 24 hours.
