what should the gph be on my powerhead if i want to use a UGJ for a 55 gallon?

Are you talking about an undergravel jet or undergravel filter? If you're talking about jets then the general consensus I've heard is about 1 jet per 100 gph. I myself made some undergravel jets for my 55 gallon mbuna tank once and hooked them to a maxi jet 900, which was around 250 gph. The maxi jet fed into 3 jets via 1/2 inch pvc pipe. It seemed ok but could have used a maxi jet 1200 on it instead (295 gph).

under gravel jet. did you use glue on the pvc pipes, or did you just leave them with no glue?

I fit everything together without glue. There's no way a good fit is coming apart as a result of the pressure from a typical powerhead.
