How do you fill up a 55 gallon tank? I had to do about a 5% water change because of some uneaten food that was rotting (it has about 13 platy fry in it) and ended up having to connect it to the hose, which has a different PH from the house water and can only disperse pure cold. Out faucets don't have screw-ons so if I want to fill it up by faucet, I'll have to stand, holding it, for about a half hour, and I certainly will not use buckets because I don't fancy carrying 10 buckets of water back and forth every week!

Well with our 28gallon and the rest of our tanks.. I just use the tub faucet to fill the bucket back up with water. Of course it gets annoying when I have to do a large water change..the whole back and forth thing, but it's not so bad :D

For my 55 I just use buckets. 6 buckets out, 6 buckets in. Its a real drag since the tap is 20-30 metres away, and the tap takes forever to fill a bucket. For now it works at the tanks stock are all babies, not sure what I'll do when they grow up and need bigger water changes though.

Dunno what it does, but I'm in the US anyway.
Ugh... buckets? :/

As i am cycling with fish in, i am having to do 2-3 large water changes a day, anywhere between 50-75% and i have to use 8 10ltr buckets and fill them with a hose, then add hot water from the kettle to get the water up to the right temperature. It isnt as bad as i thought it would be, i mean yes, i have to carry 16 buckets in all, 8 out, 8 in, but it takes me about 30-40 minutes. I just look forward to the day when the cycle completes and i get to only do a 2-3 bucket change once a week! Ahhhh, bliss!LOL :fish: :fish: GRJ

i always have used buckets, just think of the calories you burn doing it :good: means i can eat more oh yeah more food = happier me :)

I use a container designed for camper vans,
It holes 20Gal's and I simply siphon water out of the tank into it,
then fill it up with fresh water, treat it then sit on a surface higher than my tank and siphon back into the tank,
Saves alot of disturbance in the tank

Guys, do a search on the net for an item called a Python.

It use to drive me bonkers too, but after getting this I do more pwc than I use to because it's just so easy and quick. What use to take me over an hour now takes 20 minutes max, and that's including pruning the plantlife.

It's much cheaper over in the States than it is in the UK too you lucky swines

Good luck

Martin :good:

I'm one of those lucky swines.... :good:

We love our python. You might want to check all of the faucets on that particular floor of your home. We found that the masterbedroom bathroom faucet worked, but the kitchen and the other bathroom did not.

Also, you should be able to purchase an adapter for your sink that will give you the threads you need.

But, I'm left wondering.... when you got the tank, just how did you think the water would get changed? Are you one of those really lucky people that have water change faeries living in your house? I'm so entirely envious.... :look:

Don't try lucky with python dot com though. Bad news indeed.

Yeah their website does look a little pooh! There are loads of other places that do them, I got my one the next day. I needed to go to a hardware store and get a couple of bits to fit my tap, but the pressure that you get out of the thing is amazing, you have to be careful not to suck up the sand/gravel

I would really like to get one but I doubt it would fit my tap, it is a hot and cold central mixer tap.

Well worth checking out though. Basically, if you can get a connector to fit your tap then you'll be able to use it. Over here we can get a connector that fits on snug and then you screw it down from the top. I have seen that the company that make Python acually have loads of connector types to cater for all your taps over there so you should find something.

To be honest, I'm so happy with mine I would even change the taps just to use it :)

Oh and I ended up not using the tap itself after all but the tap under the sink that the washing machine uses. I just need to get a y-splitter so I don't have to keep unscrewing the washing machine connector each time I use it.

I do all the connecting up and controlling the tap and my partner does the vacuumin the lucky git  I try to get on it but she just pushes me away and threatens to soak me if I come any closer

But we have fun doing the WCs.

I suppose I could unscrew the dishwasher, infact I am thinking of plumbing the thing into a splitter off the hot pipe anyway, save the planet and all that.

What UK site is best for getting python and the adaptors? It would definitely be worth a look. I looked on ebay breifly but could only find ones in US.
