would it be ok to plant a 55 gallon tank with a ugf and power heads? (note that this wont be the only filter on the tank) Also anyone who has planted a tank with a ugf what were the results? Also, sorry about all the palnt questions I have been asking over the few days.

If it's not going to be your only filter then i wouldnt even bother with the UGF. In a non-planted tank i've had luck with them but in a planted tank they can be a giant pain in the butt.

UGF's dont allow the plants to get proper nutrition thru their roots. The roots can be pulled down through the plate of the UGF...a few things.

I'm doing this with a 10Gal tank with just an UGF. But I used begginers plants, like Anacharis, not planted (just above the gravel) and some floating, and it still going well. Maybe its working because the roots are not growing under the gravel, they are pretty much growing outside but they might go under it at some point, making it not work in the long run

I've never had plants with a UGF but have heard stores, advice adn strong reasoning against it. If you have plants that arent planted in the substrate (Java Fern, Java Moss, Anubias Nana...etc) then i would immagine that they would do just fine but i wouldnt try with anything that is rooted.
