Hello
Two of my fish are poorly, 1 is a dwarf gourami and been in my tank a couple of months he got stressed by a sucking loach which has now gone to lfs, but his problems seemed to stem from then. T'other one is a recently bought male platy which I bought with a female who it very healthy. I, unfortunately, didn't choose the platies as I was trying to prevent my two toddlers from wrecking the shop but they come from a lfs I trust.
Their symptons are lack energy and stringy poo, plus they just don't look right, their dorsal fins are flat.
My tank has been running for a good few months now and I had the water tested when I got the platies and it was perfect.
They are still eating and are swimming about but they are not ok :( . Could they have internal parasites? What can I do about them? Will they infect my other fish, which are in fab condition  ?
Any help gratefully received.
Ness xx

Is the poo white/grey at all? Internal bacteria is much more common in platies and can cause they to lose energy and have white stringy poop- do they look thin at all (are their gills wider than their girth)?

Yes poo is definitely white and stringy, the male platy does look a bit thin, he takes himself off on his own and his top fin is down. But he's still getting excited at feeding time and both him and the gourami are feeding well. But I don't know whether they'll just get worse and worse :/

hey yeah something like is is up with my pleco hes poo is white, stringy and gray but he eating habbits r fine and hes looking normal maybe a little less energetic

When you say less energetic, what do mean?

lying on the floor? lying in plants? lying on caves, etc?

this is very important, for me anyway.

Its most likely internal bacteria then, you will med like "anti internal bacteria" by Interpet to treat this :) .

Usually basically not doing much i.e. fish hanging around on there own in plants or hiding rather than swimming with the rest of the fish or doing general active things (for example with platys suffering from internal bacteria, their sex drive goes down hill and they are less likely to produce fry).
Lack of energy is a symptom that can be caused by many things (like water quality problems), but a lot of fish who suffer from internal bacteria either suffer a lot of weight loss or get dropsy-like symptoms (bloating or pine coning of scales), white/stringy poop is a major sign of internal bacteria etc.
Internal bacteria can also cause sudden deaths in the aquarium.

Thanks Tokis-Phoenix (my helpful somerset neightbour) have bought some of that stuff and both fish look perkier already. My platy's even giving his lady friend a bit of attention :hey: which has hacked off my male guppy :/
Cheers

Glad the med i working well on your fish :) , there is also another good med you can use if you ever need it that can be used for many general infections called Pimafix which treats external and internal bacterial infections as well as fungal ones, so it basically covers the majority of fish deseases in the aquarium except ones like parasites etc.

Don't like the sound of the fish being thin with white stringy poo, is the anus red and inflamed or large.
Does the fish eat well.
