Hey all,

Newb here :( with just a few questions...

I was wondering if I could use two kinds of substrate in my tank?

Currently I am on day 8 of my first fishless cycle so, I guess I have alot of ideas floating around since I`m looking at a nearly empty tank. I have regular aquarium gravel with a ruined city look going on with a few pieces of decor and couple live plants. I have this collisium piece of decor wich I would like to raise up in the corner of the tank with Substrate. Now the rest of my tank will be gravle but was wondering if I could make this artificial hill using sand? Also how will this sand if possible, affair with future planting? Thanks

Yes, but the sand hill would fall apart.. so what you can do is make the hill from the gravel and have the sand as the main substrate.. also from my point of view, that would mean you can keep Corys and loaches (both of whom are sand sifters).

You could make a raised corner out of a Juwel terrace piece (provided the ornament fits of course).
