Just a quick question im running two internal filters on my 100L tank due to overstocking what is the best position for each filter . side by side so they both blow out in the same direction or opposite ends so they blow out towards each other or does it not really matter and not affect the fish anyway ???

Cool thanks I just wasnt sure but thats the way i have got them at the moment.

I'm trying to work out whats wrong with my fish and its a process of elimination at the moment so just thought id check it wasnt the filters position. :good:

They have been gasping a lot at the surface . yet sometimes of the day they seem fine . They have no visible injuries/disease and im treating the water with aquasafe . water stats have remained fine and i run two filters and an air stone . I've tried salt to no avail they still do it and i have starved them in case they had swim bladder etc .

So now im trying removing the lid(leaving it off for a while. changing the filters around to create more surface movement.in case its too much supersaturated gases in the water. I'm unsure really what else to do i asked at my lfs and they said they have never heard of it before and maybe my fish "just do that" lol

What if they are still hungry or there are some particles on the surface of the water? My swordtails occasionally appear to be drinking water at the surface. I looked closer and there was some kind of dust (food particles?) that they were eating.

It's not uncommon for a fish to hit the top of the water for a bit of air, mine do that sometimes. From my limited experience air stones don't aerate the water as well as the filter outlet being allowed to splash a bit into the water. Keeping the water level slightly lower helps with this. I actually turn my airstones off when I feed & sometimes I'll leave them that way overnight or even for a couple of days. Depends on the kind of fish I guess. Gouramis like I have always go to the top to breathe air, it's what they do. The Tetras, Barbs & Corries rarely do but I've seen all of them do it at one time or another.

Nice new avatar picture of Tzuppy! I noticed the new signature info as well.......... :good:

They are fancy goldfish and i am coming to he end of my rope tbh . I feed them a lot less than i used to as people said it could be constipation . they eat a varied diet of flake. sinking pellets. bloodworm and peas .

I changed my spraybar around just now so that it was spraying right across the length of the tank (two inches above the surface of the water) and i have another filter on the other side doignt he same . and i did a 30% water change using buckets so i could pour the water back and forth between two buckets for a while to stop the supersaturation thing . as you can prob tell i am new . but all that happened then was the fish seemed to not like it and started swimming around a bit frantic and more uncontrolled ie going sideways a little like he was being buffeted round by the strong flow so ive switched it back again.

ugh i'm on the point of giving up. :-( I cant see anything on the surface of the water there are a few white bits of foam where the airstone is but they all seem to go to the calmer corner of the tank to gasp where the water is clear .

Thanks. He was a bit scared at first, didn't quite know what sand was. Now he's plowing through it.

There was a video of goldfish doing the same thing and someone suggested that they are either asking for food or there is something very small there.
Are they gulping fast?

If i go near they do which is probably begging but if i watch from afar they tend to just float around with their mouth to the surface not especially fast gulping though. the strange thing is the black moor never does it its just the two fantails.

They have also taken to sleeping on the bottom of the tank (blackmoor included) this last week which they never did they always rested mid tank . but now when i get up they are all sat on the bottom or a couple of centimetres off the bottom .

I have two tropical tanks as well and none of the fish in those tanks do it and they all get the same water treatments . the same amount changed per week its baffling me.

The only other thing is that the ph is low for goldfish at 6.6 but i'm not really wanting to mess with that as i have heard it often does more harm than good .

What i need to know now is what to do next .the one who reacted badly to the extra movement at the top still looks a little lopsided when he swims . so ive added a dose of swimbladder.

But have no idea what else to do . I have treatments but not sure what to try .
A list of treatments i have are

api stress coat
epsom salts
swim bladder treatment by interpet
anti parasite by interpet
melafix
anti bacterrial treatment by interpet

Okay sorry to be a pain  But i think it is supersaturated tap water after al. I've done a lot of reading today and it seems to fit there are a lot of bubbles floating around my tank ( coming from the filters i think )and when i put my hand in bubbles form on my hand quite quickly . and its soo frustrating because there are so many people saying different things to do next .

How would you go about solving this issue ??? .

heres what i did last night i did a 25 percent water change . worked the water by pouring it from bucket to bucket before adding it to the tank and left the lid off for an hour and removed my bubble blower . the result happier fish they weren't on the bottom this morning and swam ok for most of the day but now they are back at the top again ive had the lid off for a little while today as well but only an hour . .

Some people seem to be saying i should have the aquarium lid off all day everyday ( wouldnt they jump out ?? )

And also that a pond pump would be more useful than a filter as this pushes waste up from the bottom where its more dirty . and to remove the air stone altogether as this just makes the poop float around .

what do you think should i buy one ??
