About 2 weeks ago I noticed lumps on both sides of Diego. I first fed him a deshelled pea to see if it was some odd sort of bloat, but it did nothing. It wasn't causing him any problems so I figured I would keep an eye on it. Now, they have gotten larger. They are right in the center of his body, one on each side. He lays on his side on the bottom of the tank now, but still goes nuts at feeing time, or whenever I go past his tank. When he's swimming he's fine but when he stops his back end starts falling down. I just don't know what to do now :(. Has anybody ever had fish with tumors before, or do you think this sounds like something else? Anything I can do? I feel so bad for him and I will do all I can do! I will try to get pics asap, but he has not been cooperating. Thanks in advance.

first I would make sure the water stats are good and do a large water change, then try a good anti internal bacteria med....then perhaps an epison salt bath, though you will have to ask on how to do that as Ive only heard of it, and I would also make sure is isent any sort of parasite.

once you have exausted all those options it might well be a tumor, I do have a betta with a very slow growing tumor on his side, it does not seem to bother him and he eats and swims 100% normal.

heres the begining of my fishs tumor, when it was small, does the bump on your fish look anything like this?

Thank for your reply!
When it was little it did look like that. I got some pictures of them, but he did not like the camera and wouldn't stay still. Hopefully they give a general idea. Also, I thought I would mention he is in a divided 10 gallon with two other boys and has been so for over a month, and he is the only one showing any symptoms. It's just so strange that he has one on each side in the exact same place.

ETA: Just checked the water. Just to add, the first compartment has a whisper 10i filter, and the other two have sponge filters.

Temp: 80F
pH: 7.2
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 10/20ppm (looked closer to the 10, maybe 15? lol)

And pics:

This shows how he lays down and also one of the 'tumors' on his side:

Also him laying on his side, and the lump on his other side:

Very blury shot from above, but gives an idea of placement/size:

And, because I found it funny...after snapping many, many pictures, he got mad and went to lay down in his pot :):

that looks posible like a tumor, but if it is very fast growing....as in started 2 weeks ago, it makes me think an internal bacterial thing, also with the fact that he is lieing down a lot as you say. my bettas tumor has taken months to grow to the size it is now, and thats half the size of what your betta has.

I would qt him and start him on a good anti internal bacterial med right away.

I have a female with the same kind of lump but it is only on one side. I am freaking out too and it grow fast. At first I thought it was a tumour but now since another one of my girls has stringy poop I think they both have a bacterial infections. I have separated them both and I am starting treatment. I got some Penicillin we will see how that works.

I've had 2 bettas with tumors. 1 had something growing on his spine and also had the lump on his side (which I'm now suspecting was an internal infection)... and one of my last girls had a HUGE growth on her lower jaw.

I think the lump on the side thing is too common to be a tumor for every case. I'd definitely suspect some kind of internal bacterial infection.
