:( My favorite betta has developed quite a big lump on her side and I'm pretty sure its a tumor. What I was wondering is, if there is any way to remove it on such a small fish? I've heard of surgeries on larger fish like goldfish.. but I dont know about bettas. :/ I dont want her to die :-(

Heya, sorry to hear about your fish but here are a few things i thought of.

Is it possible she has had a big meal but its only gone to one side of her body?
How long has it taken to develop?

Have you googled betta tumour, this may wield some results.
I believe a member here has had a betta with a tumour but i cannot remember who :)

Bret

It definatly not a meal, its been there for about 5 days now and she has been eating and pooping normal. She is acting/swimming normaly so I dont think its an infection or anything. Thats qhy I'm quite sure its tumorous.
I haven't actually goOgled, I will do :good:

best of luck to your fish! (sorry, no useful info for you)

oops, we posted at the same time. It did appear quite suddenly, like one morning it was there, then over the next 4 days its been growing. I dont think its getting any bigger, at least I hope it isnt. :/

Thanks jokester :)

Im sorry i couldnt be of any use either apart from the quick tips about google etc but ive gotta say.. beautiful betta!!

I just found this from that bettatalk site..

Bettas, on occasion, do brew weird growths on their bodies. Usually they are tumors, many of which are not malignant and will not kill the fish. Do they hurt? I do not know but I do not believe so. At least no betta has ever complained to me about it before ;). Since the bettas affected appear to maintain a normal life (swim around, eat, etc..) I assume they are not in pain. usually a fish that is sick or in pain will not move around much at all. The way I would go about your fish's tumor is probably add a bit of antibiotics for 2 weeks to see if it makes any difference. I would probably go for Spectrogram, just because it is both gram positive and negative, so can cover a gamut of bacteria and it also hits fungus as well. If after 2 to 3 treatments (so about 3 weeks in antibiotics) the tumor has not changed at all (zero, nada), then leave it alone. Either way there is not a whole lot you can do about it. Do NOT attempt to remove it! That would be your betta's demise. You would kill your finned friend trying to fix something that might not even really be broken.

So yea.. no idea where to get antibiotics from  what's Spectrogram?

Edit: Here ya go Bret, a proper pic of her. She's called Verity.
Her fins are a bit crap because she jumped out of a teeny hole in the back of her old tank and spent 2 hours drying out on the floor.. she surivived that so I have high hopes for her and this lump :D
(the pic is a bit glowy too)

Awww, she is beautiful. I love the white colouration on bettas. Altough is she an opaque? as i believe opaques dont live as long as the colour takes over their bodies :S

Bret

She's sort of pink.. I'm not sure, not white really, and not opaque, I dont think
Here's a couple of pics of her when she was little and before the jumping incident when her fins were perfect

In bright light she was white and in the dark she was green. :S Now she has some red and purple on her. But still the pink and green thing.. she's weird.

She might have a bit of marble gene in her and irridescance to reflect the light of etc :) but she sure is a beauty, what tail type is she do you know? looks VT/HM to me :)

Bret

No idea what tail type, I figured it was just VT. I got her from a Maidendead Aquatics store last year while I was doing work experience there. She was in a tank of dark bodied girls and I just fell in love with her.. they gave her to me for free too :hey:

Cheeky!!! :p im hoping to do my work experience next year in a LFS or a pet shop as i just love animals  im the resident animal lover and i get teased at school :p

Bret

P.S i dont care - im saving lives :p

 she is so pretty...hope she is ok...perhaps if it is a growth it will just grow very slowly...my goldfish has had one for 18 months now.. :good:
