Trying To Purify Sand

So, I have an empty 35 gallon tank I was going to put my two juvie Axolotls in and I started setting up the tank, only to find my cat decided to use it as a catbox one or two times when he must have been locked in the room ( tank was empty, just fine black sand on the bottom )
 
The sand was expensive and its really fine so if the Axolotls eat some by accident nothing will harm them on the way out.  I want to use the sand in the new setup but I was wondering how/if I purify the sand and let it dry out again, could it be used in the tank?

Bake it! put it in a baking tin in the oven 40 minutes high heat after that everything nasty will be dead!
