I have bought one of those basic CO2 kits, the sort that generates it by a yeast mixture. I wanted to boost my plants but didnt want to go to the expense of cylinders or the worry of fire extinguishers and regulators. If anyone can give me any tips it is a Hagen/Nutrafin kit and Im using it on a 200 litre. I understand I might need two generators, but I just bought one to see what it was like.

I have never used this kit before but i have used the DIY co2 on my 240 and it was just no good. The co2 generated was not enough and it was unstable on the amount it generated from day to day.

For a tank of your size pressurized would be the better option in the long run i think.

But i wish you all the best with this, keep us posted on your thoughts of the kit.

As mentioned, diy yeast CO2 on a 200l tank will make no difference. If anything you might get black brush algae due to the fluctuating levels of CO2.

I got the kit today, it was easy to set up and is bubbling from the mixture in the package not at a fast rate, but at about 1 bubble every 30 secs. It didnt cost a huge amount, so I am just going to try it. I have some easycarbo and wondered if to supplement it with that. I have ordered one of the cheaper pressurised kits too, the one with disposable cylinders. I will persist with this Nutrafin one, I have found the recipe for homemade mix and will try that too.

I am uncertain whether I am supposed to test for CO2 though. Can anyone tell me?

Just found this old thread. I wonder if any of the users on here still have their nutrafin systems on the go?

I am now getting a lot more bubbles.
