I've recently downsized to a 46L tank without considering how much swimming space my true siamese algae eater needs. I only have this fish and a black phantom tetra but I wanted to pair these up to keep them happy. Would it be better for the true SAE to have a buddy or to leave him/her on their own so they can have more swimming space?

Thank you in advance!

I have a false SAE, when I was researching them (true, false & flying fox) most info I found said that as youngsters they like company but as they mature they become territorial.
The tetras I would increase their no. as they are schoolers.

For most species a pair is the worst number you could keep them in, with SAEs they should be kept in good sized groups, Flying Fox on the other hand ideally, like RTB sharks, should be kept one per tank IMO

unfortunately your tank is far too small for even one to be happy, with a 4ft setup being the minimum required

Ok thank you for your replies. My uncle keeps these fish and his tank is more than adequate in size, so I think I'll see if he'll take her on.
