okay I was told to lower the temp of my tank by one or 2 degrees at night and raise it during the day. as this mimicks the sun and moon day and night in the wild
I was also told to lower the water level are raise the temp to mimick summer and raise the water level and lower the temp to copy winter
True or False

I think it may be true as it makes sense if you think about it

On the temperature, from what I understand the water temperature remains very constant over a 24-hour period in the tropics where most of the fish we keep come from. Even though the air temperature drops at night the water temperature because of the quantities involved remains pretty constant, that may not be the case in very small pools, but even there the heat given off from the land over the night keeps the temperature up. There isn’t a summer and winter in the tropics as such. So I think false.

If you are not keeping wild fish, then they are tank raised. They have been raised in tank conditions not in the wild. It becomes quite academic. You don't have a clue what conditions the fish has been in. Even some of my wild caught have been in various tanks since they were quite small. And most Betta splendens have been tank raised for generations.

Most of our fish do best with stable stats, including temperature. Sudden temperature changes tend to stress them--or so I've been told.

yeah I wouldn't worry about it at all, seems like a lot of needless faffing for no benefit!

Agreed. Perhaps if you were keeping wilds, this could be beneficial, but bettas are pretty thoroughly domesticated compared to their wild counterparts, and most get sick if the temp and environment is not consistent.
