We have a small mixed breed dog already and she is more like cat than dog TBH hehe. Yes, I always do rescue! There's a few things holding me back. I can't decide where I would keep the litter tray in my house (we don't have anywhere like a utility room) and I don't know where I would put down the cat's food because Josie eats everything (maybe even cat poop for that matter!)

When I type my reservations out they seem so stupid! But I know I'd have to come up with a solution I'm happy with before I got one. My Mom has been telling me I should get one too, I've been talking about it for years but a part of me loves our little family dynamic and I'm worried about upsetting it. We don't have any kids, just me, the husband and the dog :) And then I tell myself how it would be so nice for Jo to have a buddy in the house when we're not here....ugh, it's like I'm deciding to have a kid or something lmao - I'm such a weirdo

Your avatar pic is brilliant Tracey, and people say cats and dogs don't get on! :fun: And they have each others company when you're not there! :)

We only have a small house, and no utility room. We have the litter tray in a corner in the kitchen, where you can't really see it, and keep on top of cleaning it so doesn't smell. Your dog eating the cat's food may be the biggest issue lol. We actually feed our cats two meals a day because they are really greedy. I always compare them to labradors. People also say that cats don't overeat, but mine do! Mansey had Flat Chested Kitten Syndrome when she was a kitten, so she has ended up with a small ribcage, and if she gains any extra weight it puts pressure on her chest. Typically, just because we need to watch her weight doesn't mean she doesn't eat a lot! Both of them would literally sit and eat all day if we let them. So we feed them morning and night like you would a dog! They're int that routine now and come to ask for their food at the appropriate time lol.

My partner's parents have two dogs and a cat. They have a little breakfast bar type thing in the kitchen where they feed the cat. They've taught him not to go on any other worktop in the kitchen, other than that one. I certainly don't have the space to do that if I needed to but it works for them, and is possibly an option for you?

You can get litter trays with a lid that your dog won't be able to get into. Unless she's really small? Some have a cat flap on the front. Some have a tunnel that they have to go through or steps to go up so that dogs can't get into them. There are all sorts of options these days as loads of people have cats and dogs.

You're right about the feeding times that is a good solution, we already feed Josie morning and night instead of using the "graze" method I just need too look into what my options are for the litter as there are some cats bigger than my dog haha!

Haha! There certainly are! My two are bigger that any type of toy dog or small terrier. My 9 month old kitten weighs about 7kg!

Only have a small house myself. Ended up moving the covered litter tray. I don't have the worry of the dog going into it he has never bothered that way....

Food wise he only seems to do it occasionally ......... I don't worry about them starving....... I am so crazy I even have a dog house in my garden with a cat bed in it, it is there for my older cat if I am at work and he needs to get out of the bad weather

You're not crazy! My parents leave their garage door open for their cats when there's no one in. You can lock it a few inches above the ground. :)

I've just bought a second litter tray today as my youngest cat won't use the tray more than once. If there's anything in it at all he refuses to go! You can imagine how desperate he is for a wee in the morning! So got another one to make sure he has somewhere to go when we're at work or in bed. The things we do lol!

I call my older cat the Big Fat Rat Cat .. Says it all really.. I've included a link if you want to see him.

-_-

ha ha!!! have you taught him / her to flush yet??? (poor cat seems to think the toilet is a bowl of milk lol)

Well guys! Since I was talking about it here before I thought I would let you know that I've picked out a gorgeous little kitten that a local family posted on gumtree

She's still too little to leave her mum (a/b 5 weeks old) but we can get her as of the 30th April. I met the whole family and they are really nice people, met mummy cat as well. They are even keepers of tropical fish haha - they had a huge tank with 3 blood parrots. Another thing is they have small dogs so she will already be used to dogs before we get her.

I think we're going to call her Luna:

She is absolutely adorable!!! Love the name Luna too. That's good that she'll be used to dogs. One less thing for you to worry about too. Bet you can't wait! :)

The 30th is going to take FOREVER to get here! They hadn't posted how old the kittens were in the ad so I took my pet carrier with me "just in case" but in reality I was totally thinking I would be taking her home with me so I did have little depressed moment after we left without her lol. Earlier in the week when hubby and I finally made our minds up about getting a cat we went out to P@H to get all of the "kit" required - so now I've got this cute little scratching post and bowls sitting here taunting me hehe.

Awwwwwwwww you must be so excited, I know I was when I was waiting for mine .... I had a look a your other photos and the one with her having what looks like a screaming fit is very funny ... Me thinks you will have your hands full...... Did you pick two ????????

Well done :hooray:
