This is an odd one....
A while back I got a bunch of Zebra Danio's, when I got home, I noticed that one of them had a strange affliction. Right around the belly area, there was a ripple right up his both sides, although larger on one than the other. On the larger side, there was also 2 small wounds. I put him into a 5 gallon quarantine to keep an eye on him. He has been there for over a week now, and shows NO signs of sickness or weakness or anything. Besides his odd wounds, and the bloated stomach (which IS getting smaller, almost normal size now), he appears totally healthy. He swims fine, is very active as a Danio should be, eats fine, has great colors. In my big tank, I had a Buenos Aires Tetra come down with Ick. Not wanting to infect the rest of that tank, but having no where else to put him, I put him in with the Danio, and treated both tanks.
I figured with the medication in the tank, hopefully the little Danio would not catch it, but I really didn't want to risk all the other fish either. And since the Danio had been behaving normally, I don't think he has anything the Tetra could catch, but he still has some damage, so he's not quite ready for the big tank either.
So, in a rough position, the Danio and Tetra now live together in the 5 gallon, but much to my surprise, the Zebra Danio will NOT leave the Tetra alone! He chases him around the tank non-stop nipping at him! I've never seen a Danio be that aggressive before, so I'm not sure what to do now.
I do NOT want to put the Tetra with ick back in the big tank.... BUT....
I do NOT want to leave the Tetra with the Danio, where he's so stressed out he'll never recover...
So, do you think I should put the Danio back in the big tank and see how he does? The poor Tetra has almost no color now because he is so freaked out.
