I am getting another tank next week it comes with a couple of platies and some other small fish, but there is a goldfish and a weatherloach with them to, aparantly they have been in the tropical tank for a couple of years. I would like to add them to my coldwater tank any advice other than a long aclimatisation?

you could drip them, i.e place in bucket with 4 inches of tropical tank water in, use a length of airline to syphon water from tank to bucket but place a clamp on the line so it only drips in, this should be done so it takes a good hour or to to get to approx 10 inches of water in bucket at this point i would say it would be perfectly safe to add them to the tank (weather loaches are extremely hardy fish, they can even survive out of water for a few hours, and cope reasonably well with dips in temperature ) just make sure to keep the tank topped up whilst doing this

Cheers phil will try that, LOVE your weather loach pic.
