Hi,

Apart from the usual fish flakes type stuff, what else can you give fish such as Platys Tetras and Guppies ? I have seen stuff called Dapne (sp) in long plasic tubes, and of course bloodworm but wondered what else there is that can be beneficial to our fish ?

John.

there are lots of frozen foods available. Daphnia, Cyclops, bloodworms, tubifex worms, mosquito larvae....etc. etc.

I wonder how long one can keep, say, tubifex worms, in the freezer without using them and have them still be ok for the fish?

off the top of my head I dont know, but each pack does have a use by date printed on them.

Forever. Ive checked the FDA guidelines for frozen people food and they are very clear that foods can be frozen indefinitely and still be safe to eat. The guidelines they issue for individual foods are for taste/quality purposes not safety purposes. So since fish taste buds are I'm sure different, if they'll still eat it then it's still fine.

I give my fish frozen food once a week.

Usualy after my water change/substrate vac, as a little reward for having their world disturbed by the "big giant hand".

Frozen food is ok as a treat but flakes or pellets are formulated to give the fish all they good stuff they need. So I feed flakes, pellets & wafers during the week, then frozen food as a treat on sunday.
