Does anyone here have any experience with Tropica Plant Substrate from Tropica? It sounds okay I guess, but I am a little worried about the lines in the description regarding the gravel acting as a barrier so clay doesn't get into the water. I'm also unsure whether I could use it with sand because the shop I found out in only mentions gravel (I am hoping to use sand this time around).

I have also just read about Fluval Flora Plant Stratum, which doesn't have a warning like this. Are these more gimmicky than anything else? i like the description I read (but don't know how much to believe): "Fluval Plant Stratum is the ideal substrate for planted aquariums, featuring a light non compacting porous structure. Its ideal properties as an aquarium substrate are highly beneficial to nitrifying bacteria which rapidly colonize the vast porous surface, providing optimal water quality for fish. The Plant Stratum stimulates strong plant growth and promotes a neutral to mildly acidic pH."
