Hi there,

every time i go onto tropica i get distracted by the aquacubes.

link

i'd love one in the office with a few guppy fry or something but as i've never seen one i dont know how big they are and if the whole thing is a big con.

any opinions out there, i'd be interested to hear your thoughts

oh and where do you get them from, i've never seen them in the shops.

yeah ive seen them and i dont like them..........an lfs over here sells them, but they also sell the Aquaone cube and thats the baby i would pick, not sure how you would rig a light up, i would just use an angle poise that you would see on a desk and use a regular energy saver CF bulb, they are cool little cubes and have glass covers with them as well.

how big are they mate, the pic on the net is rather deceptive. the smaller the better from my point of view. i'm not overly bothered about putting fish in it, just a toy for the office.

if you click the "my first aquacube" links on the right side of the main page scroll down and you'll see a cat drinking from it!! it looks much bigger in that pic than on the front page.

any idea how much they are? a rough stab in the dark is fine.

jimbooo no idea how much they are i didnt enquire, knowing Tropica products they will be pricey no doubt, the one i seen was about 8-9 inches on each side, maybe 8-9 inches high as well, the little light on them is cool i will give them that, they would be perfect for a desk in an office, next time im in i will find out, but have no immeadiate plans to pay the shop a visit.

I'm in the process of trying to ring said LFS at the moment for something else....if they decide to answer the phone i'll ask the question...

cool thanks chaps, gotta get a pint of guiness for ya both if we ever meet up.

edit: oh sorry zig you'll miss out i see you've moved to deep space. LOL and that member title needs to change. you may have got away with it prior to your pic post. Ha Ha

holy bananas thats daylight robbery. if thats true this side of the world my desk will have to make do with moldy coffee cups. i'm quite accomplished at growing those. LOL

Jim, i hope you're sitting down! The 8 inch (approx) square aquacube with light and plants growing in that substrate mat stuff is around 200 euro (140 sterling)...
On the plus side the aquaplus one which is the same size, cast glass cube without light or plants is about 60 euro (40 sterling), I think the 100 quid would go a long way to filling that with plants!

thanks a million andy. tropica can stick their £140 then. sod that do i look like an idiot.

40 quid sounds fine and i have more than enough plants to transplant already. the lighting may be tricky though. i can see the finished bodge job now. LOL

next bonus day maybe. thanks for the research mate

mmmm.......i knew they would be expensive but not that expensive, thats a total rip, if you see them in reality they are not worth that amount of money, half maybe at a stretch.

jimbooo i couldnt decide if i wanted to go to the 5th dimension or deep space, its deep space for now its pretty cool up here B) and i will always be an algae grower i dont think i will change that

Way overpriced....i wouldn't pay 50 for one, personally....even the guy in the LFS admitted that you'd be mad to buy one! CAn't see him selling too many of them!

Zig, i'll be passing through 'deep space' on my way to Dundrum shortly.....I'll give a wave as i pass!! ;)

^^ LOL ^^ Yea the guy in that LFS that I saw the thing admited to me that someone would have to be crazy to buy it, altough it looks nice I would rather make it out of plexy and it would cost me about 10$ + the light...

EDIT: PS: See you two I will be wawing on pluto to UFO's hope you pass and maybe you can visit for a cup of tea...

My LFS in Belfast has one on the counter, They're Ok but are very small indeed. I cannot see the practicality of having one not to mention justifying the monetry outlay.
Your money would be better spent in other directions IMO.
