i have a 6 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot tank empty, and i want to put a big tropheus colony in there, how many topheus do you guys reccomend for tank this size? 680 litres - 6 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot.

cheers damo

10-15 adult fish depending on how often you want to do water changes. You can go up to 20 fish but you will have to do more water changes to compensate for the greater load on the tank. If you go for about 10-12 then there will be space for the young to grow up as well.

okay so i wil be able to let the mother spit the fry out into my main tank and the large adult tropheus wont kill or eat my fry?

only one species of Tropheus per tank otherwise they will hybridise.

Tis true will hybridise, If you dont care then go for it, just dont let those fish into someone elses hands.

Id is widely agreed that Duboisi don't hybridise with other species of Tropheus....some people even consider them a slightly different species. So you could mix them with another group, however, rather than do that (where you would need 30+ fish in total, and the duboisi dominate) why not just have a great colony of one kind to maximise effect and also breeding? You could have 25+ in that tank of one species, would look amazing!

How about a sp black variant or Ikola? Something a bit different to your two existing colonies. Moops are very popular too.
