i just visited my local fish store and have made a list of some fish i really like as i have space for quite a few more fish so am going to add a few more....just going to narrow the list down and see whats best so will be posting a few threads like this to narrow the selection down....

firstly the red cockatoo triple red dwarf.....is this okay to put in a tank with a betta, few corys, loaches and catfish....and can you keep just one male on its own or do i have to keep the one male to three female ratio?....ideally i just want one male if i can

any advice would be great so i can decide whether to keep or knock it off my list..thanks !

bump anyone know? as im looking to buy them either today or later this week.....or alternatively knock them off my list if they dont go well with the rest

Well I have double cockatoos and I have a male/female pair (although they have never spawned). I have them in a 30 gallon with corys, neons and one angel fish. All get a long. I think you are definitely risking with a betta. Now I have never owned bettas but the male cockatoos tail and finnage when he matures is glorious and flashy and my understanding is that this would be too much for the betta to resist an attack. I hope others respond to this. But I just wouldnt do it for that reason.

30 gallons is about minimum for a pair by the way. You don't say the size of your tank.

I think you could keep one male but you won't see the breeding colors without a female. One thing is the female is TINY! Not much bigger than a neon so the bio load is next to nothing adding her in. Mine holds her own and there is no excessive harassing by the male who is 5 times her size.

Good luck
