Is it safe to trim roots on plants to make it easier to plant and have all the roots buried?

I uprooted some plants earlier to prune and now i have roots poking out the substrate everywhere mainly from amazon swords and crypts

Can i trim?

I regularly shorten roots when I'm replanting. I'm lazy and then to just pull them off, which you aren't meant to do as it can damage the roots to such and extent that they will then not grow.
But....I haven't had any trouble yet.
I would still suggest using nice sharp scissors, if you don't have proper plant scissors then nail scissors, hair cutting scissors and similar will all be good. Just basically any that are really nice and sharp. :)

i trim roots quite a bit; also i know this may sound bad....

I have water wisteria with big roots and i dont have anything to tie them into a bunch with; so i get a big root and tie them all together with it lol ^^
