when I 1st set up my 20gal (see sig for pics) I bought plants that the store said would do well with low light. At the time I only had a 20 watt bulb, after upgradeing to a 110 watt system those plants are outta control. Where I used to have a lot of swiming space the Hygrophila difformis is overtaking the tank. Also I got some Crinum thaianum and that seema to be doing much better in the 55 gallon with 80watts. As we know it doesn't grow out but it's gotten so long that it is covering the whole top of the tank and getting caught in my outta control Hygrophila difformis

I was thinking to move the Crinum thaianum to the 55 gallon ( would make a total of 6 in that tank) and try and spread out the Hygrophila difformis to oppsite sides of the tank. but alas the tank is only 16" high and at least one of them is like 30" and has started this strage bending/crepping look to stay at the top of the tank. Could I cut it up in some way as to get 3 10" plants? maybe spread them along the back after I have removed the Crinum thaianum?

I'm new to planted tanks and this would be my 1st trimming (except for dead pieces) I am however not new to growing plants as I was a herb framer for years and have always kept a nice size garden.

I started out with 5 stems of HD gallon tank. When it hits the surface, I cut the top 4" and replant it. I have about 15 stems in there now, most of it almost in need of another trimming. (Though planting activitiy is on hiatus in that tank while I treat it for ich :()

So you could surely get three 10" plants out of it. Cut the top 20", strip the bottom 2" of leaves, replant it, give it a week to get rooted, trim the top 10", repeat.

thanks, I am gonna do exactly that. The water onion is going into the 55 gal were it will have more room to grow and not get in the way
