Trickle filters

Is it worth me trying to build a mini trickle filter,just out of an old ice cream box?i was thinking it could go on my hood and have a little airline tue running down to the aquarium.Is this possible or should i not really bother?Its just my tank may need to some filteration in the future!So is it worth building?

Personally, I wouldn't, they can turn into a nitrate factory. if you need more filtration, I'd go for the conventional submerged option such as internal filters or external filters.
