Can anyone recommend good tankmates for Neolamprologus tretocephalus? I'd prefer tankmates to be the same or shorter in length with bright(or white) colours and it would be nice to have a balance of activity in the different areas of the tank(bottom, middle, upper)

Thanks!

Difficult to reccommend tankmates for these guys - they are downright vicious. Most hobbyists advise species only for N.tretocephalus although i have read about people having some success with single specimins in aggressive Mbuna tanks.

They are OK with shellies and other tangs as juveniles but watch out when they near adulthood. :hyper:

I've never heard of the fish, but if it is that aggressive, nothing can beat a Single Male Aurutas! They are down right Murderous!

Try Melanochromis Chipokae, they make Auratus look like neons!

Actually Brichardi, Juli's and even cyps (since they inhabit upper level) are all good tank mates for tretos of course it all depends on size of tank to begin with.

Ah! Those are some nice fish! I'll look into them! thanks for the help!

From what I have hear Trets are very aggressive when breeding, and brichardi are also not a good community fish when breeding.

Perhaps keeping a single one of these in a tank with a nice large shoal of Cyprichromis, a pair of Julies and some shelldwellers would work well in your 125? Brichardi and tret and Julie would claim a rock territory each, shell bed away from a rock pile for maybe a colony of multfacitus or brevis? Then open water for the Cyps to claim....nice active colourful tank.

Hmm thanks for the advice. :good: That looks like a really nice stock. I'll have to talk to my lfs about availability...
