Hiya, my platies (x3) have developed the early stages of whitespot (they're flicking and have developed about two tiny little pin-prick sized spots on each of them) I only brought them home from my lfs on tuesday and got them as first fish because my tank has just cycled (fishless). I'm just wondering if anyone has used Protazin before and if so does it affect the good bacteria ... the last thing I want is for the tank to start cycling again because I add some medication that kills them off!!

Thanks a million

if it say's it's an antibacterial or antibiotic then there's a fair chances it'll kill off some if not all of your bacteria. what you might want to do is remove some live media and put it in a glass/jug/bowl/tub anything really and add ammonia daily to keep it live. then when you've finished your course of treatment you can add the media back to the filter and should hopefully avoid a serious cycling problem. however do still keep testing your ammonia and nitrite levels and do water changes if nescessary

Hi,

I've used this before with no problems at all - it does say on the bottle that it doesn't harm filters or plants (but of course, no ingredients listed), and to remove any carbon from your filter.
