Be aware that some medications will wipe out your bacteria colony so you will still need to keep an eye on the levels. And the strips are definitely your problem on the GH & KH as you should never see swings like that in them.

Sorry didn't realise you lived in the states I told you uk meds.
Maracyn one and two for columnaris, the meds can knock your benefical bacteria in the filter.

Eek! just put in the fungus meds and it turned my water neon green!!
Does anyone know how long the green will be visible in the tank? The directions on the med packet said to take the filter out while meds in tank and that I have to re medicate in 48 hours. The directions also stated that I should replace the filter after treatment. The medication I put in is called "Fungus Cure" by API. The ingredients are 3mg Victoria Green & 30mg Acriflavine. This med is said to cure Fungus/Mouth Fungus & Fin and Tail Rot. I checked it out online and it got good 'reviews'. Anyone have any input? Also, now I am worried about the effects this med could have on the bacterial growth in the tank. Advice please!
