I'm setting up a new tank in my college apartment, and I had a quick question about adding a filter sponge from my mature tank at home. The problem is, my tank at home is about a two hour drive from where I go to school. So I was wondering, if I put a sponge from my mature tank in a bag with some water from the tank, would it last the two hour drive back to school? I know it can't last long out of the water, but I don't know if it'll last the two hour drive even with the water. Any suggestions would be great!!! Thanks!!!

Put it in a plastic bag covered in water (or sealed food container), leaving about one third for air, the moving about in the bag will keep the bacteria alive for the two hours.

that can keep it alive for days if you add a little fish food.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll go ahead and try it then, and see if it works out.

cool! how will the becteria get O2 over two days?

The same way fish do when they are shipped, 1/3 water, 2/3 air.
ahh, i was under the impression, the the water had to flow to feed O2 to the bacteria.

It will flow, through movement of transportation.
