OK, we are moving house next saturday, thank god :D . It's only to the other side of the city so it's not far. Bagging up the fish, moving the tanks and half a cellars worth of equipment and keeping the filters alive is not a problem. I want to take as much of the water as possible and i wouldn't mind some of your opinions on the best ways to do this.
I was thinking those giant bags that goldfish get transported to gala's and fairs but i'm finding it hard to find them, i could get some giant tupaware tubs with the lids but these are not water tight and with all the traffic lights in leeds this wouldn't be the best idea.

Cheap and cheerful methods please - its a expensive house

really long hosepipe across the city? no? ok

a waterbutt? not too expensive. i have a large blue and a green one i use to transport water, ok they are not 100% water tight but keep most of it in!

large binbags? tied at the top? dont know if they coat the bags though so would have to check that first incase there is chemicals on them.

erm lots of buckets and careful driving?

How much water are you looking to shift?

is there a particular reason why you're wanting to keep all the water? personally i'd just take enough to bag up the fish, re-fill from the tap there and then drip acclimitise everyone?

This place is about 1hrs drive from you I think, (providing they allow for store collection).
Seems like theres a good selection of products, not sure how the prices compare to what you are looking to spend though?

Water Containers

Agree with MW though, water is heavy, and takes up space, both of which are expensive when moving. Is there really any reason to keep all that water? (Especially as you are only moving across city, so I'd expect the tap water there to be similar to the tap water at your current place?)

yup the reason is we'v got a hell of a lot to do that day so it will be a lot easier and quicker to set up the tanks with existing water, getting all the tanks filled up and heated with new water would take all day, also i can acclimitise the fish to the new water over the period of a few weeks.

yup this is probably true but i haven't tested the water yet. It's more about speed than anything else.

thanks for that link schmill - i'm going to order a few of the 60l tight head drums - that way i can lift them easily enough.

fair enough, i suspect it's all been decided on and stuff now but if you do have the option is there any way you can arrange to move into the house one day and not have to move out of your house until the next? that way you can move all your stuff over on the first day, then the next day just move the fishtanks over so you can concentrate just on them?

unfortunately not as i'v only got one day off, the mrs could probably do it but i dont think she would be too keen  "uuurgh fish water"

dont worry though the fish are by far my number one priority :good:

EDIT: Thats not comparing them to my girlfriend by the way :friends:

What about getting some of the bags that fish farms use for Koi, they have to be big and strong to hold the fish and water?

You could get a few of them and fill them up, then put them in a bin so they don't fall about.

Or you could get RO water containers, they hold about 50 - 100 litres.

Good luck.

for big fish bags try the quality koi company, they're on the outskirts of Leeds/Bradford somewhere, maybe brighouse but i'm not 100% sure. I strongly suspect they will have massive fish bags.

Nice one MW, this was my first choice method. yup brighouse near halifax, i'll give them a call.
