Hey guys;

In about 3 weeks, im moving to a new place while my house is being demolished and my new house is being built :) lol...

I was reading a post a while ago, but lost it... Doesn't matter, ill find it when i have time

I was thinking of siphoning water from the tank, putting it in buckets/containers; and placing it back in the tank when im all done.

As with the fish, put them in a bucket with a lid with an aerator. Im thinking that they should be in complete darkness so they don't stress... should i put them in polystythrene boxes to keep temp steady?

The filter, just disconnect and reconnect on arrival.

Thats just the basics for now...

Anything i have missed?

Thanks guys :)

how far are you moving? because if its local go to your LFS and ask for some fish bags and polyboxes (stirafoam) you may have to pay a little bit for it.
bag the fish up in 1/3 water and 2/3 air with a few fish per bag, dont feed the fish the day before to reduce waste produced in the bags. rap the fish bags in parpe bags to help with heat loss reduction and also redice stress on the fish. now tank water can be moved in buckets if you wish to. ad media in that same way as the fish making sure all the media is covered in water.

if moving a long distance in no good so sorry and now back to christmas :lol:, have a good one!
shang hi :good:
pst... psst its christmas today!!:hyper:

the problem will be how long the filter is gonna be off?
without oxygen your bacteria cant survive
happy xmas

Bagging & polystyrene boxes work, as does a large cooler with water and fish. As long as the filter media is kept wet it is easily fine for 12 hours.

If the trip is going to be longer than 24 hours, add some frozen food to the bagged media. It will deteriorate, creating ammonia to feed the nitrifying bacteria. Don't feed the fish for 24 hours before a 12 hour trip, 48 hours before a 24 hour trip. Beyond that you are looking at a battery powered air pump with a cycled sponge filter for the cooler of fish, not to mention a way of keeping the temperature at least 70F.
