Although I have been reading the threads in this forum for some time and have learnt a great deal from the pinned topics I have had different experiences with different employees from different shops.

I would be interested to know if a lfs have to subscribe to any type of regulatory body (such as a financial advisor been regulated by the FSA etc) to carry out training courses for it's members of staff or if most learn on the job like us hobbyist's?

I doubt it personally because most people I've seen who work in LFS's around me don't know very much. I dont know of one LFS worker who knows about Fishless Cycling they just think it's a myth and doesn't work and you should ONLY put fish in it to cycle it or one of those products they sell that DOESN'T work.

There is a board that regulates fish shops in england called OATA (ornamental aquatic trade assosiation, i think ?) but whether shops sign up to them and run by their guidelines and send their staff to be trained by them entirely up to the owners.
