Since we can't pin links to other forums here, these links take you straight to the pictures. I've never seen these fish "in the flesh" so to speak, and frankly, they're gorgeous. So I couldn't help but share.

Now thats a good looking fish, who do i have to bribe to pick up a group of those

Excellent find! Do you happen to have any photos of the other lesser known species? All I've ever seen of are drawings. Thanks, Neale! I may have to try to track some of these guys down!(probably wont happen)

I think we need to assemble a posse of archer lovers for a collecting trip. :D

Love the irregular markings, they look similar to Terapon jarbua markings.

That's _exactly_ what I thought when I saw them. These pictures came from another fish forum, but the logo on them is from an exporter called AquariCorp in Thailand. They have a web site that is incredibly annoying. A huge Flash animation that you can't skip, only to eventually (5 minutes later) tell you the site is under construction. So haven't been able to find the originals of these pictures or any more of them. Judging from the forum I took the pictures from, the pictures were posted by someone from the exporter... bizarrely enough looking for ideas for a common name!

This was posted back in 2005, so I guess we can expect to see this fish on sale sooner or later. I do hope so.

Definitely time to start writing to Wildwoods! Who care's about T. microlepis when we can have this beauty!!!

Cheers,

Neale

PS. Found another picture here, though apparently a dead fish. It mentions the fish as from an estuary, which is odd, as these fish are _said_ to be freshwater.

T. oligolepis looks almost exactly the same as T. jaculatrix. It has no spots between the bands. According to Allen there is quite a bit of confusion over this fish, and fish attribute to this species in the past probably don't belong there, particularly not the specimens from Australia. There is a picture (drawing) of the type specimen of T. oligolepis in the Allen paper. The giveaway feature of this species is that the third spine in the dorsal is the biggest, not the fourth and fifth as in the other Toxotes.

T. kimberleyensis is the freshwater species from Australia. It is photographed in the Allen paper. It looks like T. jaculatrix but has a solid black anal fin. The fish referred to as T. oligolepis in Baensch, volume 2, appears to be in fact T. kimberleyensis

T. lorentzi is in Baensch, vol 2, as well. It's rather a dull fish, basically tan in colour with vague vertical banding. There's a photo here.

Neale

I contacted a local rare fish specialist to see if I might be able to obtain T. blythii though him. This guy got his hands on a Madagascan Stripped Scat which I have read is non-existent/obtainable in the fish trade. He's also had Coal Grunters and Baramundi in stock so I figured that this guy is probably a good start. I'll keep you guys posted on my findings. If he can get them would any of you seriously be interested in some?

Neale,

Can I get the name and URL of the exporting company in Thailand? Is it AquariCorp? That info might become useful in my search.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

The exporter is indeed AquariCorp.

As for UK fishkeepers: I have been doing a little e-mailing behind the scenes, and all I can say is watch this space...

Cheers,

Neale

Neale,

Thanks for that info. I've gotten no response from e-mails so far... I may need to go meet with some people in person to get any answers. I'll report back with all my findings.

What kind of size do these fish attain? I may seriously reconsider closing down one of my tanks if these become available in the future!
