ok im tottally new in this forum but from the computer forum i know all of the rules etc,

but i got a prob,

i own a 3ft tank with about 2 blue goramis, black molly and about 5 small orangy reddy coloured fish, dunno spesifically what they are called but oh well,

heres the emergancy.

i noticed that the male gourami was chasing the female, i thought nothing of it at the time (thought theye were playing).

but today my female gouramis tale fin was missing, i mean litterally missing, she was struggling to swim to get away from him

so just now ive put the female in a bowl covering the outside with tin foil (to stop the male from scarring her, and also to reduce her stress levels)

and now the bowl is left floating at the top. and the lights off

now for the questions,

- How can i bring her back to her normal health???
- How can i stop the male from doing it again???
- How can i keep her alive
- will her fin grow back

thats it, plz help thanx

chris

It's abit worrying that she is struggling to swim, you might have to be prepared that you might lose her, i would add some melafix for the tail, she might have to think of rehoming the gourami if she makes it, as they will not get along if he's done this to her, sorry.

If you don't have any melafix add some salt for the stress of the ordeal, bless her, if it's a gallon bowl just a teaspoon.

ok she is tottally isolated from the rest of the fish, shes in a container in the tank, cant but the melafix as all the fish shops here are shut now.

i hate fishing them out when there dead,

its a dog bowl, unfortunatly

Ok, half a teaspoon of salt just mix it in a cup of tank water, stir well till it desolves then add to her bowl, fingers crossed, good luck.
One more question is she heavy breathing.

urrm duuno ill check

shes hardly breathing at all, her mouth isnt openning as fast or as wide as the male

my dad said something bout not to leave her in the salt water.

thats worrying, why?

Not only has her tail been nipped at, but stress can kill a fish, thats why she needs the salt.

Just take some out of her bowl, and mix half a teaspoon of salt in a cup then tip it back into her bowl.

i know no1 asks you this but, should i taste a salty taste or not, cuz at the mo i dont, its normal water

shes started swimming around now, even tho she cant

Don't know what you mean, the half a teaspoon of salt will do her the world of good with being stressed, it will help her, as like a said a stress fish can die.
You just need to disolve the salt in a cup of some tank water, as it will burn her skin if you don't disolve the salt in some water first.

ok ive added the salt, its slightly salty (the water)

i no it aint too much shes swimming now but she cant and her head keeps comming out the bowl

now shes not swimmin but she seems alot more relaxed (as shes not doing anything but breathing slightly)

Just give her time to get used to it, say ten minutes, if she hasn't settled in ten minutes, tip some of her water down the drain, and just add some tank water to dilute it abit, she could do with some aeration in there.
