Residue from flake food usually.
Use a paper towel on the surface to get it off.

Ahhh but i havent used flake food in this tank ..

I dont have any fish it in just now !

Totally emptied it and started over and now this has appeared :S

Strange

This happens on my tank aswell, from the flakes, aswell co2 if you add it.

if you agrivate your water it will go away, or hookup a little skimmer (fluval makes one ) to your input and that will fix it.

I thought it is layer of organic protein that released by plants, not sure. :)

I am rearing Molly to overcome this problem, they would eat that layer off.

I had this just before I got struck with GDA and green water... May be totally unrelated so dont mean to stress you.

I had a similar thing on my 30g.. I posted a question and people said it was because of feeding high protein foods.. it doesnt seem to hurt the fish and has been slowly reducing through more water changes.

But I guess with you not having any fish in, it's not going to be that!

Did the water smell funny? Had you used any cleaners, air fresheners, etc. in the room?

Sit a sheet of kitchen paper on the water surface for a split second then lift off. Repeat over the whole surface. Voila.

I found that both of my tanks had this problem initially, taking a good few months for the water to stabilise etc and then the film stopped appearing.

happens to most tanks withouth surface agitation.

Ahhh thanks to all :)

Well i totally redone my tank and its still not back again!

If it does ill let you all know lol

Thanks again

Richie
