I wish to put some top and mid dwellers in my ten gallon. I have two peppered corys and two khuli loaches in my tank for one year. I do very frequent water changes and my tank is very well filtered with two ten gallon HOBs.

neons would be nice.

Guppies hang out more near the top and middle, you'd want to get just males though so you aren't over run by fry.

Marbled hatchets for the surface and Black Phantom tetras for the middle coupled with a small shoal of Cardinals to add a contrast in colours.

How many of these cardinals can I keep?

That depends on how big your tank is Rahul. Can you post the dimensions please?

They should be kept as a group because they like to shoal, more than the neons do in fact.

Neons are neat little fish but some people find them to be relatively unhardy compared to cardinals. Plus, I've found that they prefer middle to bottom rather than middle to top, at least when they're young anway.

My tank is 20" long, 10" deep, 12" high.
I just put 3 Silver hatchets in my tank over the weekend.

My black neons tend to stay higher in the tank than my regular neons. I find this more so with a well planted tank with enough other fish in the tank to keep them comfortable. My gouramis swim all over my tanks and I find they do a lot of "cute" and interesting things.
