Am new to the hobby of fish keeping, but as i look into the world of tropical fish, i am amazed at how many beautiful fish species there are. What i was wondering what peoples favourite species were, i am looking for the opinions of novice and experienced collectors alike, what are your favourite species both behavioural and visually.

To get things of (as i am new i have a clear favourite) = Tetra's, they have such beautiful colour patterns and there shape is so uniform and simple. Great looking fish !!!!

1. Corydoras! Cute and friendly and peaceful and fun to watch. Schooling bottom dwellers.

2. Bristlenose plec. Another peaceful bottom dweller, rather larger and messier, but happy on its own.

3. Platies. Bright and colourful and perpetually greedy, these will soon learn to eat out of your hand. I prefer to keep females only as it makes for a more peaceful tank, only drawback is they may be pregnant from the shop.

4. Harlequin rasboras. Beautiful schooling fish, peaceful and easy-going.

5. Amano shrimps- yes, I know this is cheating, but shrimps are great fun to watch!

Note that some of these need a larger tank than 30 ltrs.

il put clown loach and black knife fish on ther :D the rules and the knife fish is soo unique its fun

This is hard:

1) Corydoras (Julii if you want to be specific)
2) Guppies, so colourful!
3) Khuli loaches!
4) Marbled Hatchets, although I've never kept any.
5) Lemon Tetras, one of the most underrated fish ever.

I also agree about the Amano Shripms.

1. Male Bettas
2. Plecos
3. Catfish
4. Guppies
5. Javanese ricefish

It was difficult to choose as I love all fish, but these are probably my favourite five. :)

I guess my list would look like this:

1) Frogfish
2) Walking Batfish
3) Sharks (real elsmobranch sharks)
4) Lionfish
5) Sea Dragons

Already own frogs, should have a lion soon and if I ever see a walking batfish I am buying it (the bank of nina's final decision notwithstanding).

1. Silver Arowana - This is the fish I aspire to - like a silk scarf sliding through the water
2. Striped Loaches - They are a regular laugh riot they are. I have 8, and will have 10 before long.
3. Pygmy Corys - So widdle cutsies :fun:
4. Angelfish - Silver or Half-black - regular tail (Coming next summer)
5. Bristlenosed Pleco - It's how H.P. Lovecraft spells adorable.
