I took my other fish from my 29g tank back to the LFS for store credit today. I am upgrading to a 55g tank and going to make it a cichlid tank. While I was there though I decided that I can't go without a fish for a month or so. I picked up a 2g hex tank with undergravel filter and air tube. I got me a nice pretty blue betta to go in it. I have never had Bettas before but think I will like this one. Any suggestions for anything special that I need to do?

Just care for him like you would your other fish, but interact with him a lot. You'll see he is more responsive than most.

And welcome to the family! :)

Try to feed him foods with higher protein than regular flakes, such as frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms. Since the tank is fairly small, you'll want to do water changes at least once a week- twice a week would be better. Congrats on your first betta

Also, don't get nervous if he doesn't eat at first. Many betta are like that when you bring them home. Also keep anything reflective away from his bowl.

Well I had a change of heart. I decided that one wasn't enough. haha I went back and got a nice red one, and swapped my 2g for 2 1g bowls. I am looking forward to getting some more sometime soon now. May even take one and put him on my desk at work. Where are some good pics so I can tell what exact kind of betta I have? I will post up some pics of them as soon as I get my camera back this weekend. By the way I fed both of them as soon as I put them in there and they gulped it up. I do have some freeze dried blood worms I may put one or two in each thing tomorrow and see if they like them.

Oh no! Not you, too! Gottagettanothabetta hit you! One. The a pair. The a trio. Then five. Next think you know you'll have 20+.....

I don't know about 20 but I am sure I will get more before it is over with. I have noticed that they interact a lot more than other fish I have had. That is cool with me though. I will take good care of them as they need some good feeding and TLC to look a little healthier after being in those small cups the LFS keeps them in. My bettas just don't look like pics of the ones everybody else has. Is it because they have been in those small cups? Will they look better with time?

Well the story continues. I was back at the store today and wanted to get a few more bettas, when I couldn't decide which ones to get so I ended up bringing home 4 more. I have 2 of them in their own 2g hex tank each, and the other 4 are in much smaller little cube things. Not sure how big they are. I am working on getting the 2g hex for each of them. I have to stop buying bettas sometime soo or I won't have anymore room.
