I'll keep this simple-

I’m gonna be setting up a 24x8x8in nano and think I could easily get 40w over it making 8WPG!

Can you have too much light over a tank?

Please lets not go down the whole 'smaller tanks need more light, see the Rex's lux page’, think we've given that topic enough air time! :X

Cheers

I ran 72w on a 12g and while plants grew like there was no tomorrow and little problem was multiplied tenfold. Algae can come on really quick, certain plants get really invasive and certain fish can become really shy.
Heat from the light can also become a problem as a small water mass hasn't the temp stability of larger tanks. (my hood was enclosed though)
Hope this doesnt put you off, give it a go, hope ya get some good results.

Cheers guys,

Ill give it a go and see what happens. I've taken to modify my hoods quite a bit recently (long story!) so hopefully i can deal with any heat troubles that may arise.

George, Ive managed to find a shop that stocks HC, can't wait to see it carpet the tank! Do you have any suggestions for shortish plants that I could use for the back of the tank?

Good stuff.

Hemianthus micranthemoides is a lovely plant and would compliment the HC well I think. Check out its profile on the Tropica site.

Much appreciated, Ill perhaps keep a picture record of the adventure so I can show you.
