I just got a blood red parrot cichlid and he is acting a bit strange. Many people I have spoken to have suggested that these fish act funny when first introduced to an aquarium, and that they are very social and like the company of other parrot cichlids. I wouldn't be opposed to purchasing another one, but I don't know if my aquarium is big enough.

It's 75 gallons, and contains:

2 angels
4 guppies
1 african leaf fish
1 knight goby
2 rummy nose tetras (their numbers are dwindling... so probably none of them soon)
2 emperor tetras
1 blood red parrot cichlid

I know they get large, so I'm just not sure if there's enough space. Thoughts?

No it isnt over stocked. But your African Leaf fish is the one who would be eating your tetra's and soon your guppies. When you say acting funny, can you describe how he acts? Also, how long has the tank been set up? What are your Ammonia, NitrIte and NitrAte readings?

Well, the first day he was normal- very active and social. Then the second day he wedged himself in a corner and wouldn't move, and has been that way since. Also, he doesn't seem to support himself, but instead props himself against plants or the filter pipe to stay stable. I've been asking if people think he has a parasite or bacterial infection, and so far the response has been that they just sulk and are shy for a while. I'm still not convinced that is the only problem, though.

Just checked my stats:

pH: 7.5
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 20 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm

I would be surprised if the BP isn't doing a bit of bullying after lights out....

No bullying so far, but I'm sure once he's feeling better that'll be a whole new situation to deal with.

Do you guys recommend having a pair?
