Alright yesterday I setup my dyi co2 system for my small 5 gallon. Nothing came out for about 2-3 hours, then all these bubbles started coming out and fast! I was getting at least 8 per second and was a little alarmed. I checked the ph, it had dropped from 6.8 to 6.4. I removed the bottle and emptied around 3/5 of it and filled it up again with tepid water to where the neck begins then put it back in the tank. After about 2 and a half hours I checked the ph again and it was still at 6.4, so I decided to leave it for the night. When I woke up, I immediatly checked the ph. It went from 6.4 to 6 and possibly lower (my chart doesnt go that far). I removed the bottle and havent set it up again since.

I am using a 1/4 teaspoon of yeast and a cup of suger (not even that) in a 600ml bottle, the airline tubing is short and doesnt have a check valve on it and the kh of my water is 2. All my fish seem fine and the ph has climbed back up again but I want to fix this problem.

Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Too much CO2 eh? In that case, use an airstone with an airpump. Some surface agitation will help get rid of the CO2

I wish to limit the co2 straight from the bottle, not balance it out by adding another thing in my already cramped tank. Thanks anyway.

Well, the tank is just 5 gallons, and I use a 500ml yeast bottle for my 23 gallon tank. So maybe you could try using lesser yeast, and in a smaller bottle or something. Try out different amounts of yeast with sugar till you get it right.

Keep all variables constant (water, sugar etc.) except for yeast. Experiment with less yeast until you get the desired results.

Messing with different sugar and water quantities will result in more confusion. Yeast is the "magic" ingredient that controls CO2 production rate.
