Bag the fry and float them in the largest tank and then add the heater and insulate them all.
I don't have fry yet. The mom is in a 5 gallon. I'm still waiting.

Someone had suggested to me that if you light a few tealigh candles and place them under your tank (if possible) about 4-6 inches from the bottom of the tank, it will at least keep the bottom third of the tank warm so the fish have a cozy place to go.
My tanks are on wooden stands. This method might set my house ablaze.

Thanks for all of the ideas! the lights are on in all of the tanks right now. I am going to put the space heater in my room when it starts getting dark. I will also wrap up the tanks in some blankets.

If the mom is in the 5 gal you can move her to the larger with the heater then move her back in the morning.

Her 5 gallon has the heater. She might drop too soon or absorb the babies if I stress her out too much. I stressed her out a lot already by switching tanks and messing with decor. I don't want to mess up her pregnancy.

Another really cheap way is every time you get up to pee, is to take out a biggish cup of water from the tank and go microwave it till it is warm and then slowly pour it back in. It worked for me and kept my fish alive when I had a heater go out. But, I have a faulty mom bladder.
