Ok now i know the nitrite levels have been no where close
lets redfine my tank results
ammonia stoll seems to be consuming at about 3ml or 4 ml per 24hrs

Ammonia .O.0ppm
Nitrates 5ppm
Nitrites Off Scale.... drops went straight to bottom purple
All Nitrite results below are with 5 drop test done then a good shake , so might as well be disregarded
so all considered how are the results now .. and when should i expect nitrites to start dropping

will be dosing 3.5ml of ammonia again tonight
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Tank still nice warm 29c
Dosed up 5ml of ammonia at 11pm last night

12th Test 1050am tuesday 18th
Ammonia 2pm
Nitrates 10ppm
Nitrites O.5ppm

Ok tell me about my results ... ive never had nitrite this low.. good? bad?
ammonia this seem to be eating up abou 3ml every 12 hrs correct??
nitrates doubled to 10.. good? or Bad?

please as normal all coment welcome
thanks Ginga

It's important to not concern yourself about the precise figures. Over-analysing whether you're seeing enough of one property over another doesn't help anyone :)

The important matter is that after adding ammonia the filter converts the pollutant into Nitrites then Nitrates. The first stage is usually fairly quick to build up, the second stage often takes weeks. Once you see your nitrates rise then you know that second bacterial stage has began to develop. Even so, it may take a few more weeks before your filter can cope with 2ppm of ammonia let alone 5ppm.

Don't add too much ammonia (I am not suggesting you are) - you want enough to "stress" your bacteria giving it a bit of a challenge to rise to, but not so much that you end up with massive nitrates which can in turn lead to "complications". Build things up but seriously, take a bit of a laid-back "it'll happen when it's ready" view!

thanks,
going back to basics i think
added 3.5ml of ammonia tonight , by the way thing sre going should be gone tommorrow eveing then i add some more
just wondering if it worth only teating say every other day and just watch ammonia levels daily??

It's best to keep a complete set of result incase you have any problems but technically you are only really interested in Nitrite levels so you *could* leave the other tests and just test for nitrite once a day until you see it drop - but if you do have any issues then you wouldn't have the data to help.

It's also worth testing the pH as it will probably start to drop as your Nitrates get sky high
