my LFS has a breeding pair of tomato clown fish, can i keep these with other clown fish and most other fish? and any advice how to help them breed? cant get a anemone anytime soon so im a bit stumped. also do they often breed more than once or do they not stay together

hi,

you need a really big tank to be able to keep more than one pair of clown together, the smallest ive seen success is 180G i think. Seffie on here is currently having problems and she has a massive 5' tank.

Clowns become very terratorial once they are ready to breed, even more so once protecting their eggs. So they need their space. I have seen clowns spawn without an anenome, they were hosting in a large coral. But it is very rare.

Once they start laying eggs, they wil lay in a cycle every 9-12 days untill something upsets them

cheers mate, i was thinking of putting them into a 3ft tank by themself if they do breed. the LFS is asking £20 so i think its a steal but i dont know much about breeding fish. i have kept maroon clowns before but never a breeding pair.

20 for the pair??

that is good! 20 each for a breeding pair is good.

Clownfish fry need contant supply of live rotifers. The live rotifers need to be cultured and fed live phyto. So for the first few days before the will move on to other food its very hard. I think its 5 days before they may start taking baby brine shrimp.

yeah i think £20 for the pair..it just said breeding pair £20 so i presume so.
im going to research clown fry and breeding fish this week and hope they still have them in a week or so.
