The silicon seals in the 20 gal are VERY close to giving out. So tomorrow I get to replace the tank with a "new" used 20gal tank I picked up today. I also got a "new" used stand to replace the desk that I was using. The tank is densely planted, with about 8-10 fish and a bunch of cherry shrimp. So I get to tear everything up tomorrow and move it from one tank to another.

^ the silicon seals. No those bumps are not filled with water and no it hasn't been like that for two months, why would you ever think that! <.< >.>

^ "new" used tank and stand. $45 total

ATM I'm working on cleaning the new stand and tank. Also gathering up all the buckets I'll need tomorrow and taking all the unnessicary equipment off the old tank. It's fun stuff!

At least you saw it giving out. Imagine if it just gave out one day. Plants, shrimp, water... everywhere!

yeah, one day I was doing a water change and noticed it. Lots of squishy bubbles in the silicon can't be a good thing.

The switch took me about 7 hours total, I'm not very speedy I guess. Spent around an hour catching shrimp.

Drained and emptied old tank(boy was it dirty)

Fish, plants and shrimp all got to hang out in a bucket, They all where acting like it was the end of the world

A better shot of the silicon seal in the old tank. I'm really surprised it hadn't started leaking or worse

Add shrimp! Counted about 160 of the little buggers, 110 more than I thought there where :hyper:.

Now I've got the old tank sitting outside on the sidewalk. I wonder what I should do with it :shifty:.

Nice deal on the tank & stand. I would do a reseal on the old one, if just to have a back up.

Wow, you're braver than I am. Not only would I have freaked out over those seals I also wouldn't have trusted the old stand to hold the tank up

Nice new tank though :good:

I would of but parents said I had to get rid of the old one. Since its hard enough to get rid of a new 20gal round here, I decided to toss it since it would only be worth a few dollars. But before I tossed it I filled it up outside and spent a good 10min destroying it . Lets just say the tank continued to hold water just fine after I pulled off half the silicon seals. Also held fine with a crack in the glass. A hammer finished it off :D.

how comes you botherd putting everything into a bucket? I would of just put gravel and water into the new tank, let it settle for 30 mins then direct transfer all the plants, then filter/heater etc, drain the water in the old tank and catch the fish/shrimp in the last few inches of water, putting them straight into the new tank?

Looks good though :)

Thats a nice tank. Very nice planted tank. WOnderful. What are ur stocking plans?

Wow, that's a tonne of shrimp! Great looking set up, seems ashame (but fun) to smash the tank, I would have left it outside for a while and let some small native fish and plants magically appear in there :shifty: .

Well mainly cuz I wouldn't be able to move either tank with water or gravel in them. And everyone in the house was conveniently absent . Also when I disturbed the gravel everything went black, which would of made fish and shrimp catching difficult.

Stocking is currently a lot of shrimp, 1 swordtail, 1 sparkling gourami, 4 p. signifers, and 2 corys I didn't know I had. I will be adding some new cherries for new genes. Then a lot of rainbow fishs mainly p.gutrudae and some threadfins.

Yes I was a bit ashamed to smash a tank, But it was terribly fun . I filled it up just so I could watch it gush water every where. The old tanks dieing moments .

Wow, its nice to see people thinking about things like this! I wish more people would do that with guppies.
