yeah to balance the temp of the water!!!

hey you is near me lol
I just use the hot tap personally!!

:p

You don't know where Malt could get a cheap 90gall from near you way, do you?

Yer, i use the hot tap too :)

Surely boiling water will harm the bacteria in your tank?

As for the 90 gallon, i have enough time to wait for a real bargain to come along, as my oscars are only 2.5 inches atm, but if anyone does see one going cheap i would really appreciate a PM or somat :D

I use the Kettle. I balance the water temp in a bucket first and then add water conditioner. I don't add boiling water directly to the Tank

Hot tap works for me.

I have read some people think that because the water has been hanging in your pipes and tank for a while that the deposits and bad bacteria can build up however I've yet to have problems.

One solution I have considered is buying a second spare tank heater and just putting the water in the big refill container I use and just letting it heat it. Will save your kettles and is a lot less effort.

i've rigged my tank up straight to the gas central heating.

i'm kidding of course... I draw from the cold tap, and then let it reach room temperature (12-24 hours) before starting my water change. Unless you're doing a large water change, then it shouldn't affect the temperature much.

Unless you have a combination type boiler that heats the water as you use it then it is not a good idea to use water from the hot tap. If the water has been sitting in the boiler tank for some time it may carry traces of copper which is poisonous to aquatic lifeforms, these copper deposits could build up in your tank and cause unexplained deaths/diseases.

Personally unless i am doing a water change of over 20% i dont bother to bring the temperature of the new water up to that of the tank, infact i just run the water straight from a hose into the tanks and add dechlorinator as i go.

What Temp is Your House? Mine is usually below the 25degrees That I keep my tanks at So I have to adjust the temp up
My house is usually less than 25 too, but as CFC has mentioned, unless you're doing a significant water change, than the colder water will hardly effect the water in your tank. I let it sit for 12-24 hours, just to take the chill off it

thats exactly what I heard, I don't want to risk copper in the water which could harm the fish.

I'm to worried not to heat the water for the water change!!!

I pretty much have the same method as DrOizo
