a you know by my earlier posts, i am a victim of my lfs lies.
I know my oscar is easily going to outgrow my 55 gallon tank, and i was told he will be unhappy.
I love my oscar, but want the best for him.He is still just a baby, ad i have awhile until he gets too big.
But is there even fish adoption centers?
Can i returnhim to the lying lfs? maybe for a refund or a different fish -.-
I really really really love Stitch (oscar) and thats why i want the best for him
PLEASE reply, he is a very pretty red oscar, and he doesnt deserve an unhapp life.

Thanks,
Dominic

I'm so metric I have a hard time with gallons, but isn't that something like 300 liters? In that case I wouldn't worry about keeping an oscar there if the water is kept in good condition. What have you got in there besides Stitch?

its about 150-200 liers

I see... well, then I understand your oscar problem. (Haven't checked your gallons to liters calculations but I'm sure you know better than me! ;) )

Have you considered buying Stitch a stately home? As in a larger tank? There are really good deals on second-hand tanks and personally I would prefer that to going back to the LFS with him. Buys you time while you think about it, too! :good:

not to worry! you can grow out stitch in the 55g. just be sure while he is in there growing, you are out putting away money for a bigger tank. you could always bring it back to the lfs, but they generally give you little to nothing back. how big is stitch now?

Some people consider a 55G the minimum for an oscar, its great you want to provide it with more. Though I tell you this as an oscar can be kept in a 55, I wouldn't recommend it personally.

A good LFS should accept returns, especially if they gave you misinformation, theres only 1 fish rescue service I know of, Monsterfish Rescue, and I think its in Ohio (though not sure).

I think it would be fine right now , till you can find a larger tank. I find all kinds of deals in the buy and sell. Especially right now after christmas. I even got lucky one day when I was at the pet store , they were getting ready to renovate, I was looking around at the fish and I said I wish I had a bigger tank so I could hae bigger fish and she said " oh really, that one over there that all the feeder fish are in is going to be for sale in about a week, I think they want 125.00 for it, it's only 6 monthes old". well, My jaw hit the floor, it was 108 gallon tank! It was in great shape too. They sold me the filter system and light for 75.00 ! I guess it was one of those right place at the right time scanarios but when you keep your eyes open you'd be surprised at what you'll find! l found a 70 gallon tank with everything for free, and lots of 50.00 deals on 50 gallon tanks. If you really want to keep him, he'd be fine in there till you find something bigger, that will give you time to look around, and you'll know he's being looked after. :good:

i agree. just keep your head up! just remember, the tank isnt going to look for you, you have to look for the tank. any flea-markets near by? they usually have decent deals! try for a 90g that way maybe you can pair up stitch with a handsome/pretty oscar of the opposite sex! im pulling for ya!

just adding an oscar of the opposite sex is unfortunately quite unlikely to result in them pairing up, and they will more than likely not get on unless the tank is large enough to provide enough territory for both. raising 6 or more oscars from juveniles and watching them to see if any pair up is the most reliable way to get a pair unfortunately

understood, just saying with a big enough tank he could house two, so stitch has company. never said anything about breeding.

Agreed with Joecoral, chances of pairing up slim, especially as there is no easy way to sex oscars also although Stitch will be introduced into a new teritory, there is likely to be fights between the two oscars (even if they were of equal size, much better to grow young ones up together).

It sounds like you got the right attitude. :) Keep your head up, things changes very quickly. You'll be fine in your 55, for now. I had mine in one for awhile, until I found the right deal on a 75. Now, he's very happy in his bigger home. :D

if they're added at the same time i think they'll be fine. oscars are a schooling fish and usually dont mind company even introduced to another when its beenin a tank long term.
