To Move Or Not To Move...

ok so i have 3 bettas, 1 ct and 2 vt's. my new vt is in a 5g and my ct is in a 10g. the vt(koi) does nothing but swim back and forth throughout the 5g tank and my ct(reign) is not so active...he swims about but not as much as koi does. i was wondering if i should switch the two bettas to give the more active one more room to swim about? any advice or opinions would be awesome. thanks in advance!

I would move but be sure to make sure you reaclimatise both! It may do them good for a change of scene!

i tried to post in the betta section but where it should say "start a new topic" it says "you cannot start a new topic" weird... anyways yes reign is very laid back. koi and angel are my swimmers. very active and charming. just thought koi might like some more room to swim around. angel has plenty of room. he is in my 30g community tank. was also thinking about moving my 10g into the living room as im short for space on my dresser. would that be too much traffic for a betta? i do have 2 kids...just a thought for now...

I have lost track of the third betta. Is it in a divided 10 gallon with the other one? If so, there is more swimming room in the 5 gallon than in the 10. This is definitely a proper general discussion subject Shi. The betta section of the forum is intended more for things that really only apply to bettas.

the 10g is not divided. the 5g is a cube. i noticed that koi(in the 5g) liked to swim about so i moved all the plants into the back so he could have some swimming room and still have a place to rest. reign is in the 10g by himself. he is not much of a swimmer so i thought maybe i should switch them? my 3rd betta(angel) is in a 30g community tank. he is perfectly happy so not moving him. but also was thinking of moving the 10g that reign is in to my living room but not sure bc my kids. they like to look in and im worried it might be too much traffic for the betta.

How can there be too much traffic for a betta? I feel sorry for most of them because people condemn them to living an isolated existence as the sole occupant of a tank. I always have mine in the company of other fish because I do not agree that they belong alone. I find them to be just as much social animals as most other fish. If you are going to leave them in a tank by themselves, the least you can do is let them interact with your kids.

well my bettas arent really alone. they have snails in with them. but koi(my new vt) doesnt like any other fish in his tank. he chases them everywhere! but i did move the 5gal next to his tank so he could see my other betta(reign) but all he does now is just flare at him all day. reign on the other hand has a snail and about 3 guppies to keep him company. he does seem to be taunting koi though. he will swim up to the side of his tank and sit for a minute and then swim away. then when koi leaves his side he will swim back and make koi swim over and flare again. i hope eventually koi will get used to it and calm down.

i would be inclined to leave them where they are. the more placid fish in the larger tank and get him some more fishy friends(perhaps some pygmy cories for the bottom). and i would move the feisty one down with the kids. as long as they know not to put stuff in the tank, im sure hed love the interaction with them. bettas are very personable fish (As im sure you know)

I don't think you should move 'em; they seem fine where they are. Move the active one down with your kiddies & as long as they realize they can't bump the tank or anything ( as most kids *DON'T* know) he'll be fine!
