Hello,

I was thinking about starting my 29 Gal tank again. The only freshwater tank I have up and running right now is a 10 Gal community tank. With 2 (soon to be three) platties and 6 neon tetras.

If I fill the 29 Gal and use a gallon or two from the 10 Gal, and maybe put the filter pad in, will this be enough to help boost the cycling process? or should I use a product like biozyme or something similar? if so which product?

I plan on using some of my existing fish for the cycling, and have plans for the tank to become a dwarf cichlid tank afterwards.

thanks

Water won't make any noticeable difference, but a sponge (filter pad) will, so definitely seed the new filter! The difference is usually about a week or so.

As for cycle aids.. feel free to try, although we haven't seen any definite proof yet. I would appreciate if you could let me have your full cycle log, especially so if you do use the cycle aid (I'm thinking of doing a project about it).

I can definitely recommend doing a fish-less cycle over fish-in as that is guaranteed to be less harmful to the fish and will also allow you to fully stock immediately, whereas stocking with fish-in cycle will need to be very gradual.
